Welcome to …

The First Jagua Ink Darién Cultural Exchange

04-08 Nov 2024

Our mission is to connect jagua artists and distributors with the roots and traditions of this artform and the indigenous people who share this gift with the world. We are excited to share the beauty of Panama and the hospitality of the Wounaan and Embera tribes. We will experience Panama City and the Darién. Parts of the Darién are a World Heritage Site and is part of the natural land bridge spanning North and South America.

During our visit we will be spending 3 days and two nights encamped along the Sabanita river in the Darién.  Our food and accommodations will be provided by the tribe and we will live as one community.  Our generous hosts will provide traditional meals, containing mostly rice, beans, bread, plantains, chicken and fish.  We will sleep in the fresh air on typical sleeping mats with mosquito nets, surrounded by the sounds of nature.  We will have access to a community bathroom/shower house with  a drum of water available for bucket baths. Electricity is limited and not available in our sleeping huts. Food and beverages are provided during mealtimes.  Other drinks and snacks may be purchased from the tribal store.
